5 Day Detox: Day 3

Today was the easiest day so far, but what I was surprised about was how much not having refined sugar was going to effect me. I felt sugar cravings towards the end of the day, especially after watching my boyfriend munch on a packet of bourbons he bought me which I now can’t eat until Saturday. Not that there will be any left for me to eat. 

For breakfast, I had a fruit bowl consisting of cherries, strawberries, an apple, nectarines and grapes. For lunch, I had an avocado salad with lettuce, pepper and sweetcorn, steamed veggies and baked potato coins. I always make homemade fries or coins without oil or anything and they’re delicious. All I use is dried herbs and turn them every 10 minutes in the oven. I also baked these with a garlic clove to make them taste even better.

For dinner, I made chilli. There was no oil, just chilli, black beans, chopped tomatoes, sweetcorn, spinach, pepper and peas. I added ground coriander, cumin, turmeric, cinnamon and paprika. I had quinoa on the side. This was so yummy and super filling! I usually have this with rice but quinoa was just as good.

I think in America they call Wednesdays ‘hump day’ as it’s the middle of the week and the hardest part to get through but today was the easiest. When I went vegan for the first time, I felt very tired and slow for a couple of days but then I perked up and felt great. This feels like the same thing – I guess it takes a few days for your body to adjust to a new diet. I’m hoping it continues to feel this great and I can adopt a  lot of these habits after the week is over and not revert back to takeaways and junk food.
